The UWA Queer Department provides a variety of diverse services and is open to all members of the sexuality rainbow; gay, lesbian, trans, intersex, queer & queer-friendly students. The Department is not only responsible for supplying information on queer-issues to students but also representing the queer community on campus. We seek to provide a supportive safe-space for students to socialise, educate & engage with one another.
You don't have to be 'out' to join the Queer Department; we welcome all open-minded and queer-friendly students. We provide opportunities throughout the year to engage students in the issues and info surrounding the Queer community including social & political activities. We don't have a mission statement but if we did it'd simply be "community" so we encourage all students from across the rainbow & at all stages, from out-loud & proud to just questioning, supportive or closeted to join our community & become involved in 08.
We're located on the 2nd floor of the Guild Building (go up the stairs to the left of Guild Admin) & are open during normal hours Monday to Friday. It can be pretty confronting visiting for the first time but as an added incentive we have DVDs, Xbox, an extensive library, bean bags, internet access, Milo, tea, coffee, info on upcoming events and even an alfresco veranda! Most things that are easier said than done are worth it, so hold your breath & journey up to Queer Room.
